Invisible Ink

by Tom Guyette

Your life is a story;

Every day is a chapter;

Every hour is a page.

As you tear them from your notebook

And you paste them on your friends

You forget to keep the copy

That will read from end to end.

Sometimes it seems so hollow; we lose the in-betweens

Page one is when we're born and on page two we're seventeen…

Look again—volume one; volume two.  Think in context and you'll see it's true.

You're always you!

Stop to read your pages!  Those who know you do.

Be sure to save your pages!  Don't shred the book of You.

[Instrumental]

Your life is a story;

Every day is a chapter;

Every hour is a page.

You're not like Shakespeare's Player, just an hour upon the stage.

You're a vital, keynote layer on an everlasting page.

And if you don't believe me, if you think I'm talking myth,

Just try to take back all your pages from the friends you wrote them with.
